President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will keynote on Monday
(July 7) the opening of the 8th Association of Southeast Asian Nations
Science and Technology Week which the Philippines is hosting this year at
the World Trade Center in Pasay City.Organized by the Department of
Science and Technology (DOST), the ASEAN S&T Week coincides with the 50th
anniversary of the DOST and the country's annual celebration of the National
Science and Technology Week (NSTW) whose theme this year is “Making Science
Work for You."
The ASEAN S&T Week is one of the major and continuing undertakings in
ASEAN S&T cooperation. It aims to promote science and technology (S&T)
development in the region by creating greater awareness of S&T, developing
an S&T culture, and providing a medium for participation and collaboration
in regional S&T programs.
The ASEAN S&T Week is held every three years and hosting is rotated among
the ASEAN member countries, namely, Brunei Darrusalam, Cambodia, Indonesia,
Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
