| Public's safety in NAIA-3 case paramount -- Bunye |
The government will not take any chances with the safety of the public regarding the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA 3), according to Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio R. Bunye. In his weekly column The View From The Palace, which comes out tomorrow, Bunye assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine what caused a portion of the ceiling of the newly constructed terminal building to collapse last March 27. "Safety will always be our primary concern and we assure the public that an independent probe is underway on the collapse of a portion of the NAIA Terminal 3s ceiling," Bunye said. He added that the government will see to it that all facilities within the international airport are safe and "live up to the standards of the best airports in the world" before Terminal 3 begins operations. "It is essential that this airport facility live up to the standards of the best airports in the world. The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) are leading the way forward for this to happen," he said. Bunye earlier appealed to the public not to speculate on the NAIA 3 incident, and instead wait for the results of the ongoing investigation. He said that the NAIA Terminal 3 would be opened within the year after the repair of the damaged ceiling. "We want to open the facility to serve the public at the soonest possible time, on the condition that all structures and facilities are secure and devoid of any hazards to the public," Bunye said. |
